たどりつくと、おだやかな凪の海が迎えてくれた。
Fishery, Water, and Karaoke
A calm sea welcomed me.
＜トリップ＞
人口1.8万人の尾鷲（おわせ）市は、人口の約８割が住む中心市街地と、９つの浦（うら＝入り江のちいさな町）からなります。
第１号の今回は、尾鷲市古江町（ふるえちょう）を訪ねました。
＜trip＞
Owase city with residents of 18,000 consists of city center, which holds approximately 80% of people, and 9 small villages by the cove.
The first village I visited is “Furue” village.
かつて遠洋漁業の基地としてにぎわった古江町。ここには、水深415メートルからくみ上げられた海洋深層水の中継基地「アクアステーション」、海洋深層水から塩をつくる「しお学舎」などがあります。
Furue, where used to flourish as a base of pelagic fishery, has Aqua Station that pump up deep-ocean water at the depth of 415m(=1,361 ft.) and Shio Gakusha, which is a salt factory using that deep-ocean water.

交通 自家用車がなくとも、移動は可能。尾鷲-古江間のふれあいバス（時刻表リンク）は一日４便。

ばたばたとした日が続いていました。そんな折、取材の下見に訪ねた古江町。目の前に広がったのは、あまりにいい天気！思いきって、予定を組まない一日を過ごしてみました。
11月下旬とは思えない、あたたかい一日。聞こえるのはカモメの声、漁網を直す漁師の会話、凪の波音。
海辺では、釣りをする男性と立ち話をしました。アクアステーションへ行くと、声をかけられた。お宅に呼ばれ、半世紀年上の先輩と、マイクを握る夜。「歌いたくなったらいつでもおいで」。
めぼしい観光資源があるところではないけれど、たしかに古江町の光を観たように思います。
ほんとうは、こんな今日がたくさん転がっているのかも。

The day I visited Furue was warmer for Autumn end. All the the sound I heard were voice of seagull, conversation of the people repearing fishing net, and the wave of calm sea.
I chatted with a guy who was fishing at the port. Seeing fish at Aqua Station, another guy talked to me and offered dinner and karaoke at his house. He said to me, “you are always welcome when you feel like singing with us”.
Although Furue does not have notable tourism resources, I certainly found a brilliant light of Furue in the time I spent in this small village.
There may be the day like it all around.
＜お土産 Souvenirs＞
①「しお学舎の塩」
尾鷲在住の友人が、お土産に塩をくれたことがあります。それが「しお学舎」の塩でした。味はもちろんのこと、「尾鷲を知ってほしい」とデザインされたパッケージも◎。サーファーでもある尾上“教頭”を中心に、10人ほどが日々塩づくりにはげんでいます。
①”Shiogakusha’s salt”
A friend of mine living in Owase once presented me a salt for a souvenir, which was Shiogakusha’s salt. The package designed with a wish Owase would be more famous was good, not to mention to the taste. Centered on Mr. Onoue”head teacher
”, also to be a surfer, 10 employees work hard to make salt.
②「EMせっけん」
おじゃました家の流し台所に置かれていた、EM石けん。実はこれ、古江のお母さんたちによる手づくりでした。自然界にいる微生物群が、汚れを分解してくれるそう。「きれいな海がつづくように、つくったんよ」。
②”EM Soap”
I found it at the kitchen of the house I accidentally visited. In fact, it was hand-made by ladies in Furue. Microbes in nature seem to decompose dirt. “We made it wishing the clean ocean will last for a long time”.
